I have a 29 topaz 1987 with ta

I have a 29 topaz 1987 with tamd41a engines. I am replacing the wet risers and the engines do not have the solenoid set up for the exhaust brake. Are they neccesary and what do they do? Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks for the info. Would I have been better off to order risers for a tamd 41b as they have no flapper and look to be the same
