"I have a 1978 115hp merc outboard. When setting the timing belt on the distributer am I lining up the flywheel on TDC and then align the marks on the distributer with marks on the fly wheel, the Seloc book is kind of vauge.

"The flywheel has 3 dots on it

"The flywheel has 3 dots on it ,but it also has a band on it that has TDC in the middle.This engin is running rough at idle and when i give it a little gas. I have replaced the plugs ,it has good compresion and seems to be getting gas. I have only run it in the yard and wanted to check this belt before i put it in the water.
