"I have a 1994 mercury built mariner 60 I had a problem with the starter, I got the starter overhauled re-fitted it, now when I turn the key to start the engine nothing happens, the battery is fully charged, anyone have any ideas?"

"Frank, below is a diagram of the entire starting system - of course it is burried a little around the motor etc however, the starter is but one component.

Other possible culprits:

1) ensure the battery is fully charged and you have good contact with the cables.

2) the keyswitch itself could be faulty (or starter switch).

3) the starter solenoid may be shot

4) the inline fuse may be blown (good first thing to check - located between 5 and 6 on diagram)

5) the neutral safety switch may be shot or alternately, doing it's job, ensure the shifter is in neutral.
