1993 90hp Force Lower Unit Question

"I pulled my lower unit off, replace the whole water pump assembly and all the lower unit seals. I have 2 questions:

1) The large nut that tightens down the carrier bearing...the manual says to torque it down to 160 ft lbs. I don't have the specialty socket so I can pay $20 and have a mech do it or I can use a screw driver and hammer to tighten it but, won't know the torque. What do you do to tighten it down?

2) The manual says to tighten the bolts that hold the lower unit to the leg to 16 ft lbs. Am I reading that right...seems kinda low to me.
