Force 70 runs then quits

"My force 70 from the early 90

"My force 70 from the early 90s is playing up.

It starts and runs at idol. It powers up without difficulty and runs on high revs but goes rough after about 2 mins and then cuts out. I have difficulty starting it from that point unless I leave it for half an hour, at which stage it starts without difficulty and goes through the same process.

I think it must be a fuel problem but am looking for suggestions of where to start.

"Could be fuel or could be ignition - you have to determine which.

Try pumping the fuel bulb when it goes rough - if that helps then you may have a bad fuel pump, partially clogged carb or combination of both.

Get a buddy and a timing light, see if you are losing spark. Sometimes your ignition will cut out when it gets warm if there is a problem - the windings expand and lose continuity. No continuity = no power until it cools down again..."
