"I have a 1984 Merc 115 outboa

"I have a 1984 Merc 115 outboard inline 6, im having trouble with fuel. Out of water with ears it runs great, in neutral and in gear. Put it in the water and it wont run. Starts up but dies when put in gear. If it stays running when put in gear then it bogs out when trying to throttle. Ive rebuilt fuel pump and still the same. Any help"
 
You may need to re-adjust the

You may need to re-adjust the carbs with it in the water. On muffs there's no exhaust back pressure. I think it may be running rich when in the water.

"I have the same motor. i would go with carb adjustments.

another gentleman had similar problem & found that exhaust outlet was covered by water when motor was in running position. to solve problem he started motor in a tilted position enough to get the outlet out of the water, then tilted it down when motor was running."
