"had a auto mechanic install carb. kit, last time out a little water came out where exhaust and plastic boot connect, it had been hot in past is charred, i caulked today high temp caulk, run ok when seat is up, but dies 30 seconds after shutting lid, wondering if exhaust leak in compartment was enough to shut boat down?"

"Simple answer, yes. If there isnt very good venting to the engine compartment the Carbon monoxide from the exhaust will quickly displace the oxygen needed. So the engine will die.
