"I have a 2004 Mercury 115EFI FourStroke, and when I tried to fire it up this year, it doesent start, and it is'nt any spark on the plugs! I think(of experience on cars) it doesent inject fuel before the spark is OK. What could the problem be? Where should I start?

Thanks:D"

"Hi there!

Could be a plethora of issues...

1. Is kill switch in correct position?
2. Check tilt limit (if equipped)
3. Disconnect all BLK/YEL wires under hood, this wire kills motor when grounded.
4. Is battery at correct voltage?
5. Hope you did not try starting it with plugs pulled when they are not grounded..

Hope this helps for a start?

Regards!

Benjamin."

"Hi there,

If you attempt to start the motor with the spark plug leads firing off in to the atmosphere, the IGN system gets a feedback current, potentially the electronics can be fried.

Boat shops use a device that the plug leads are attached to, this is in turn grounded to the engine block. It simulates a spark plug's gap and hence the current will flow as the electronics would like it to go.

Make any sense? Not to me, but that's just how they work.

Hope this helps?

Benjamin."

I had the same problem a few weeks ago. Engine would turn over and sound good doing so but there was no fire getting to the plugs. I replaced my stator and the engine started up.
