"I HAVE A 1988 DYNASTY 190 FIS

"I HAVE A 1988 DYNASTY 190 FISH-SKI 4.3 ENGINE OMC COBRA OUTDRIVE. I HAVE ELIMINATED FUEL TANK PROBLEMS. I HAVE INSTALLED POINTS,PLUGS,PLUG WIRES,REBUILT CARBERATOR, FUEL PUMP,FUEL FILTERS. CHANGED ENGINE OIL, CHANGED COIL, CHANGED GEAR OIL IN OUTDRIVE, CHANGED PROP FROM 14 3/4 X 21 PITCH TO A 14 3/4 X 19 PITCH. ALSO SET TIMING TO 1 DEGREE BTDC. ENGINE CRANKS AND IDLES FINE. BOAT WILL PLANE OUT THE FIRST TIME, THE SECOND TIME IT WON'T PLANE OUT AND IT SOUNDS LIKE THE ENGINE IS LABORING. ON THE SECOND TIME THE ENGINE STARTS OUT STRONG ABOUT 20 OR 30 SECONDS INTO IT, IT GOES UNDER A HEAVY LOAD AND WILL NOT PLANE OUT FROM THAT POINT ON.WHEN ON PLANE, ENGINE WILL RUN 3100 RPM WOT. THANKS FOR ANY HELP YOU CAN GIVE."

"Timing should be 6 BTDC unless you are running very low octane fuel? Also as Rick says, check compression and even if all 6 cylinders are firing. Could also be a problem with the timing advance in the distributor, rusty or broken springs?"

"THE DISTRIBUTOR IN THE BOAT SEEMS TO LOOK OKAY, NO RUST NO BROKEN SPRINGS. WEIGHTS MOVE FREELY. I ALSO PULLED THE DISTRIBUTOR AND CARBERATOR FROM A BOAT THAT WAS RUNNING FINE AND INSTALLED IT AND IT DIDN'T HELP. I HAVE NOT CHECKED COMPRESSION. WHAT SHOULD THIS BE? ALL 6 CYLINDERS ARE FIRING.I HAVE SET POINTS AT .018, HAVE ADJUSTED TIMING FROM 4 TO 1 BTDC, WITHOUT ALOT OF DIFFERENCE."
