"I entered that reply assuming that the engine had run properly on the same boat in the past.

You can check for a slipping hub by blocking the propeller with a piece of wood, put the engine into gear, then apply torque to the flywheel nut with a long breaker bar and socket.

If you can turn the flywheel and have the propshaft turn within the propeller, the propeller requires rehubbing.

If this engine/boat combination is new to you, the engine may be mounted too high on the transom (cavitation), or the splines of the driveshaft may be worn and not engaging properly.

Joe I wanted you to know the hub on the prop was almost completely worn. The new prop is amazing I had no idea the but would run so well. thanks again for the help
