2005 40hp 2 stroke stalls at idle

I have a 2005 40hp Mercury 2 s

I have a 2005 40hp Mercury 2 stroke. When I put it neutral it runs down to 500 rpms and eventualy stalls. Also when in drive going from forward to reverse or just slowing down to dock it also drops in RPMs and stalls. Other than running at slower speeds it runs fine. Any ideas?

"You are either 1) developing a clog in the carb or 2) the fuel pump may be starting to go.

If you pump the fuel bulb and it keeps it going, rebuild the fuel pump. If it makes no difference you can try some SeaFoam or the like in the gas to clear the clog, but a disassembly and cleaning will probably be in your future..."
