"I have a 1983 85hp Force outboard motor. Recently the starter motor has begun engaging the flywheel for only 1 or 2 seconds and then retracting back to it's normal position while the key is still in the start position. I turn the key, get a couple seconds of cranking and then I have to repeat until the motor fires. What is the cause of this? The starter is new and the ignition switch is new, I am leaning towards the solenoid. Any ideas??
Secondly as previously mentioned the ignition switch is new. I am confused with the magneto connections. The push to choke works and the engine starts and runs as it should with the key but I am not sure if the magneto wires are attached correctly. There are two leads for the magneto wires and I have a white and blue magneto wire. How do I know which one to hook the wires to?? What do these wires do? Will the battery die if they aren't wired correctly??
