"I have a 1978 Johnson 6 hp and a few weeks ago I was going up river and it started to loose power slowley so I let off the throttle to see if it waas going to come out of it. The motor died and didn't want to start again. I rebuilt the carb, the compression seems good for A 6 HP, and it has good spark. It still wont start and there is a liquid that looks like dirty motor oil comeing out of the part where the water gets sucked in and the exhaust. I am thinking maybe it overheated because the thermostat looks bad. My question is, what is the proble and how do I fix it? I dont know a whole lot anout boat motors so if anybody has any tips I would be greatful."
