How Much should squirt from weep hole

"I just finished putting a water pump in my 6HP 1989 SS Johnson. I did it all by the book. BUT..Since the motor is new to me it does not put much water out of the weep hole at idol in a barrel unless it is in the mid to upper RMP range (again in neutral, and the stream is not that strong but it is a steady stream). Low idol is not a steady stream its a trickle at best. Is that normal? Is there a way to check??"

"Put boat in the water and run under load until the motor is completely warmed up...Check and see if you see any steam coming out..if not, should be able to place your hand on the head of the motor, and if feel good and warm but not to hot to burn your hand,,if you can do this, you are fine.."
