Tachometer Problem

"1995 Evinrude 88SPL W/tilt&trim. Tach not working. Suspect rectifier. Rectifier has yellow, yellow/gray and red wire. Yellow connected to yellow/red of stator, yellow/gray connected to yellow/gray of stator and gray wire from wiring harness (tach?). Tested rectifier with ohmmeter. Yellow to red showed continuity and no continuity when I reversed polarity. The yellow/gray wire to red showed continuity regardless of polarity. I believe problem is rectifier but I would like another opinion.

There should be a reading in one direction only. Your explanation of the rectifier readings indicates that it is indeed bad.

UPDATE - Replaced rectifier today. PROBLEM SOLVED!
