I have a 1968 Johnson 6hp model CD-25R. I am having a problem with keeping the Throttle at a givin speed. Seems like it is slipping down in RPM and speed. Is there a simple fix or do I need to replace the shaft?

does the speed of the engine change while you are holding the throttle/steering handle

No , I don't have to hold the throttle to keep it going . The motor shakes a little but, but it doesn't stay at the speed that I want. it slowly backs off.
I am wondering if the shaft that attaches to the plate under the flywheel is worn. I am going to try to fabricate a kevlar bushing to fix this problem.</font></font>"
