I was under the impression tha

I was under the impression that #1 was always #1 . if thats the case the fireing order is not opposite of L.H.

Standard rotation (LH)

Standard rotation (LH):1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2

Reverse rotation (RH):1-2-7-5-6-3-4-8

And # 1 is in the same place.

And # 1 is in the same place. Note that the firing order is simply reversed about the distributor cap.
