"I have an 85 Bayliner 18.5 aq125a/270 it had a 14/19 prop. I couldn't even think about WOT, way to many rpms and over the last month the rpms. going up and the speed was going down. I found a 16/19 on Ebay for $30. I figured if it was to big I would just get it cut down. Man it is HUGE, when looking at the stern all you see is that damn prop. The boat runs great with it, jumps rite up on plain and about 5000 @ WOT. My ? is, is this setup going to be better an gas or will it burn more?"

"Should be considerably bettor on fuel economy.
Why not try a steeper pitch? Say a 14x21 or 23?
Anyhoot, when I run a 14x19 I get worse economy
than with my 14x21. I cruise at 3000-3200 rpm
at 35-40mph with 21p. I average around 4mpg

"1)Personally, I think that 16" diameter is too big for your boat. But if it runs great and the engine reaches its top maximum RPM at WOT, then don't worry, your drive can handle that size of prop.

2) Regarding fuel consumption, I think you will find out soon enough.
