"Help! I have a 2000 Mercury 125 outboard that runs great, except for the constant alarm.

I have checked the temperture sending switch and it is good. The alarm is constant when the ignition is on, even when the engine has been sitting for days and could not possibly be overheating.

There is plenty fresh cool water pumping through the engine, the water feels cool even after 5 minutes of running. There is no loss of power when it is running in the gulf. I have tried, on advice from a poster to remove the positive battery cable for ten minutes, it did not solve the problem.

Where exactly are these alarms located and can they go bad?"

"Charles,

It probably means

"Charles,

It probably means that the magnet on the float in the oil tank has become disconnected from the float. It is possible to remove the float and glue the magnet back on.

It could also be the switch the the magnet activates. That is also an easy fix.

"I appreciate the advice Tony.

"I appreciate the advice Tony. I will check it out.
My manual offered, "to hook up an ohm meter between both of the wires from the sensor and if there is continuity, then the sensor is bad". I will post the results.

Charles"
