Cooling water escaping

"We have on our yacht a diesel

"We have on our yacht a diesel engine, a Bukh DV20 ME, 20 years old. There were never any problems with it. But one week ago water escaped from the cooling system ( we have a double cooling system ) and run away, causing the engine to overheat. After careful observation we finally saw a small hole under the bolt which connects the fuel pump with the injection pump and saw water assemble around it. However the oil in the engine and the fuel were and still are without any sign of water.
All the specialists who looked at our engine said of course that it was impossible that water should come out of this place. We dried the place, put steel epoxy on it and since then have run the engine several times for one or two hours, without any sign of trouble.
But the experience was odd and we would like to know what happened. We have no construction plan of the engine. Has anyone any idea what happened or what we should do to avoid problems later on?"

The water pump has a couple of relief holes that will spill out onto the engine so water doesnt end up being forced into the gearing and engine systems. Check your Lip Cups and bearings in your water pump behind the impeller.
