90hp Force wonbt start

"A freind has a 90hp Force out

"A freind has a 90hp Force outboard that will not start.
He re-placed the starter, that was bad and he has spark at the bottom two cylinders,but not at the top.Would that cause the engine to not start and to backfire when cranked?
He is going to try another coil for the top spark plug.Is there something he should clean under the flywheel?
Any other ideas of what to look for?

"I had a similar problem with the number 1 cylinder, and it turned out to be the stator. We figured it out after swapping the coils, and trying a new CD box.

The stator is under flywheel."

"The prolem ended up being a crossed wire on the cdi,the previous owner changed cdi units and must have crossed wires going to the coils.We changed that and it started up,but the impeler was burned out.
It started fine about five times though.
Took a couple of days to order a new impeller and install.
Now in will not start again and was starting fine,before we switched impellers?
Any ideas on what to look for now?
I would think all the electrical is fine if it started fine a few days ago.Thanks for any help."
