The reason I am wondering is that I have a similar problem on my 2004 90 TLDI. It did run ok, except from some coughing at 5 knots the first 2 years, but then started to have more severe rev drops at around 2000 rpm. Only at load. Still have this problem and the workshop have given up. Tohatsu Japan couldn't help.
Something was exhanged some years ago,maybe the rectifier, and it did run ok for a while. But then it started over again. Someone said it could be the generator. I guess that is what is feeding the rectifier.
Anyone any ideas?
