dies when at idle for about the first hour or so, then it will stay started. I have adjusted the idle up about as far as it can go.
What should I check next?"
 
Choke! If it's a stovepip

Choke! If it's a stovepipe or manifold heated choke coil there may be a blockage in the exhasut stovepipe not allowing transfer of heat.
