400800 lower unit

Are the 400 and 800 lower unit

Are the 400 and 800 lower units interchangeable? I have an 800 with a broken hyd. assist shift cable and I also have a good 400 lower unit with the cable intact. Should I swap lower units or just use the cable from the 400?

I am in the process of changing the shift cable . don't damage it a new one is $500.00 there are also TWO similar cables wrong one will shift backward. look for rings or no rings on the upper end of the cable sheith. I would like to know how to remove the pins in the little geerbox for the wheels?
