"Hi. I've recently acquire

"Hi. I've recently acquired an older 1989 4hp Johnson outboard. It will start running when you spray quick start into it. Anyways, it won't seem to pull gas from the float into the carb. I know there is a needle in there. How do I go about cleaning it to see if it is clogged? Does the fuel get sucked up through this needle and into the carb?

I am new to engine repair so any advice would be great."

"Either the needle valve or the float is stuck or the carb needs cleaning (pumping the bulb will overcome a defective fuel pump)

Don't use quick start sprays as they have no oil in them.

You'll find exploded diagrams in the BRP parts catalog but really you need a manual unless you know what you are doing."
