After prepping my 96 bayliner

After prepping my 96 bayliner 3.0 for the boating we took it out a few times. it seems to run great but the engine makes a slight but notciable noise almost like a diesel motor. Any body have ideas? Can sitting 6 months cause a leak in the exhaust system? Any other common casues of increased eingine noise? It does not sound metal to metal or like anything is loose? Can an oil change to a lighter fluid 10-30 to strait SAE 40 make a differnce in engine noise?

"Could be collapsed hydraulic

"Could be collapsed hydraulic lifters. If so, it will clear up after running it for a few minutes. Shouldn't last too long though. Make sure you have good oil pressure and it isn't running too hot. If it wasn't running good I'd say you weren't getting fire on one cylinder. My mercruiser specs say 30 weight oil - you might want to check yours."

it could be pinging. Run 93 octane and see if it fixes the problem. Lifters could also be collapsed. Not expensive or hard to fix.
