" Mike, Two cycle motors outboards and others, where the manufacturer used bronze bushings or Bronze connecting rods, usually prior to 1960 or so, require more lubrication than those having all ball and needle bearings EVERYWHERE in the motor. Those latter ones, can live with less lubrication. Ball and needle bearings are called "antiFriction" bearings for that reason. When a bronze bushing, say the lower main bearing is under lubricated it can heat quickly and sieze. If that happens to the big end of a bronze con rod bushing it siezes the crank and it stops turning SUDDENLY, with the end of the rod flying out the side of the block. Many mid 1950's Evinrudes and Johnsons have gone to the junk yard because some one tried to "wean" their engine to 30 + to one. Better to use a little extra oil. Art "
