"I have a 1987 Evinrude 140hp

"I have a 1987 Evinrude 140hp engine on a 18' center console. Since I have owned it in 1998, it has had problems. at first it had a hesitation before taking off to full throttle, probably about 3-4 seconds. Now it will really not do anything when giving it full throttle. it has hesitated up to a minute, and that is if it actually gets beyond idle. I have had a mechanic look at it several times, and he can't figure out what is wrong with it. If anyone has ANY ideas, please let me know.

"Hey Shawn....Sounds like you have a fuel problem...Next time out, before taking off, pump the primer bulb up hard and hold it....If it runs OK then, look at the Fuel pump/ VRO and make sure all the hoses are good and tight..if all is good there, than its pretty certain that the Carbs. need cleaning/ rebuilding...."
