"I am looking for a starter for my 1979 Merc 110, ser#5455155. I know this starter is no longer available, but after looking at other starters, the starter for a 1980 Merc 9.8hp looks like it would bolt up to the side of the powerhead. How different is a 79' model from an 80' model? Has anyone tried to install a starter from an 80' model Merc 9.8hp? 1980 9.8 starter # 50-90983A or Sierra starter #18-5611, would these starters work? Is it possible? Or do I need to find an electric start parts motor?"
