"Working on one of the 1990 200/225hp models which of course has the dome type 35amp associated flywheel. The normal diameter of the flywheel teeth, across the center, tooth tip to tooth tip, is the normal 12-1/4" diameter.
The owner ordered and had delivered a replacement flywheel. However, this new flywheel's ring gear diameter, being measured identically as above, measures a diameter of only 11-3/4".
Obviously the electric starter bendix gear would not be able to engage this new flywheel's ring gear.
My question is: This flywheel with the 11-3/4" diameter ring gear... what does it fit? I don't recall ever encountering a flywheel such as this."
