"In some, if not all, of the Volvo Penta manuals there is a MAX battery capacity recommended. People often want to know what is the minimum that will do but VP just give a maximum.
I thought at first that it was the maximum size that the fitted alternator could charge but the manual for the 2000 range, for example, gives 70Ah as a maximum battery size while the engines are fitted with 50 amp alternators. That should clearly be able charge a much larger battery than 70Ah.
Can anybody explain these maximum figures?"
