"I'm trying to get the VP 280 prop screw off. It's been 17 years since I've had the prop off. Is the thread a standard thread (left-loosen/right-tighten) or not? I'm putting tremendous torque in the standard direction (left off), but can't break the screw loose. I've used BP blaster penetrating oil and rapped the screw to set up vibration. I'm afraid I'll strip the hex socket. Any help out there?"

"Yes, the screw has a right-handed thread (left off).

My suggestion is that you drill the Allen head away, then remove the cone nut, then remove the prop, then use (if necessary) heat on the screw (avoid if possible heating the shaft) and once it cools down grab it with a pair of vise-grip pliers and remove it (you may have to turn back and forth bit by bit until it loosens). A new stainless screw will cost you one or two bucks. Just remember to put some grease on the threads when you install the new screw."
