Over speed alarm

I have a 2003 60hp Merc 4 stro

I have a 2003 60hp Merc 4 stroke. While cruising (usually between 3500 and 4000 rpm) I am getting a solid tone alarm. The read out on my tach says "Overspeed" then "Reduce Throttle". There is no overheating (holds around 150) and the oil level is fine. Also there is a strong stream from the tell tale.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Whether actual or not it will cut the spark to reduce what it believes is an over rev.

If you are certain that the tach is functioning correctly you need to get the motor in to have the error codes read and see if you have a faulty component/sensor..."
