"can anyone suggest proper rpm gauge signal take-offs from a pair of merc 5.0 engines. the wiring has been removed from the tachs. i'm familiar with signal take-off from an alternator but these alternators don't have that.
there is an extra wire from the (-) coil terminal that's been cut, but when i try inputting this into the gauge it kills the engine. any other sources of signal for the tachs? and what purpose would these unconnected coil wires serve? they once went to the flybridge but rats took care of that. the engines have thunderbolt ignition, and one (-) coil lead goes to the ignition module, the other one goes nowhere. same on both engines...
