"Hi

I'm restoring a 1970 Hydrodyne, and am wondering how to determine a correct replacement engine. The present motor, Ford 302 does turn over, but compression is very poor on three cylinders, and I'm thinking a long block is the answer.

Any thoughts? Ideas? Suggestions on where to buy one?

Thanks!

Jim"

"What kind of Condition is the Rest of the Driveline,.??...
Who's driveline is it,.??....
Those Fords are a Thing of the Past,.... Parts are becoming a Problem to Find......

Depending on WHAT you have to Work With,......
I'd consider moving to a Chevy based driveline,......
They're More Popular,.... So,.. Parts are Cheaper,+ Easier to Find.........."

"Jim, I can't help you but reading your post brings back good memories. My 1st boat was a 16' 1967 Hydrodyne with a inline 6 cylinder 110hp mercury outboard. It had a 2 blade brass speed prop and the speedo (no gps in those days) would read almost 50mph. Diode pack went bad one day and motor wouldn't restart, I wrapped the rope around the flywheel and pulled the crap out of it and it started up on the 1st pull, doubt I could do that again. Anyway, good luck with her, my friends said if my boat had been black it would look like the bat boat."
