Low Oil Pressure on 2000 V8 Volvo Penta 50

On my last trip the oil pressu

On my last trip the oil pressure alarm came on for the pressure being too low. A few seconds later it jumped back up to normal according to the gauge. It did this on and off for the duration of the trip. Any ideas? Could the gauge be faulty? It seemed to run fine.
 
Check out the OP sending units

Check out the OP sending units. There are probably two on your engine. One for the OP gauge will be by the distributor and the one for the alarm should be on the back port side by the OF. My experience is the alarm sending unit usually goes bad after a few years. Good luck!

"Eric, you say your gauge dropped also, check your oil pressure with a live gauge, not electric. GM who built the motor states 10psi at idle and 5 psi for every 1000 rpm minimum pressure. I believe that the oil alarm turns on at 5psi."
