Hi - I am trying to remove the lower unit of my outboard to work on the water pump. Should this just slide apart from the tail or does it need to be pried apart? It is not coming off easily and the manual does not specify a procedure. Thanks! Howard

I am having the same problem with my 4 cyl classic 50. Acts like it is bound up in the upper splines.

Got the first 1/4 inch of gap easily but now it just doesn't want to come free no matter what I do to persuade it. It will even roch back and forth front to rear through that 1/4 inch but not come free.

For you just make sure you get ALL the nuts and bolts off. Mine had 4. 2 in back and the 2 on the sides in front.

"Make sure you have all fasten

"Make sure you have all fasteners undone - you may have to use some "slight" pressure to get the unit to separate.

If you haven't had the lower off in the last 2 or 3 years, or the motor has been run in salt water you may be in for some heartache getting it apart..
