Need urgent help with my merc 33hp

Engine was running fine all da

Engine was running fine all day but when cruising in at full power I heard something and the motor just started to rev really high because I was at full power. It was almost like it slipped into neutral. The motor runs great but it won't engage and actually push in forward. Somebody here must know what broke. Please help.

Sounds like you may have slipped the prop !

does the prop on your little motor have a rubber center ?
Maybe a broken pin or prop retainer ?
not sure whats on that motor

Do you hear any clunking or grinding noises ?
 
"I just took a look at the pro

"I just took a look at the prop...took the pin out that holds it on and the pin inside was broken. I believe I may have slipped the prop indeed, but what causes this? I'm a newb to the world of outboards. Seems like a cheap easy fix. I will have to replace the broken pin but in the mean time is there something else I can use to make it work? I appreciate any input. Thank you."

Age or striking the bottom are both causes of a sheared pin/slipped hub...
