"I have a 1997 Force 90 HP. Occasionally, when I try to start it, the starter wheel will spin, rise up, and engage the engine. But it will only turn the engine for a second and then sink down and continue to spin. Can anybody help me with this. Is it the Starter or the sellinoid. Thank you"

"sounds like you need a new starter.I replaced mine when it was doing similar things, and it fired right up. (also,the prices on this website are very good, I got mine from here)"

"Agree that the starter may be getting worn - rebuild could fix it, but before going that route a little bit of grease may not hurt.

That little gear that moves up should be greased, including the shaft, a couple times a year to keep it working properly."
