"I have a 426 wedge that I rebuilt out of another boat (boat unknown ) and it has an oil cooler on the port side. I assume it was to cool a transmission in a previous boat. My boat is a jet , with no transmission and I'm wondering if I can remove the oil cooler to simplify the plumbing and eliminate the akward large strainer or does the engine itself require an oil cooler?"

"Jeff, is yours all original? Your oil pump must have plugs where the cooler lines are supposed to attach if it’s a marine oil pump. I can’t imagine what the oil temp must be without one as my oil will get up to 220 degrees even with the cooler when I shoot the pan with my laser thermometer when cruising at 3000 rpm.

Dan"
