"I currently have problems with my propeller shaft on my 1960 Super Sea Horse and I either need to replace the whole motor or just the lower gear housing. My question is, will the lower gear housing from a short shaft setup work on a motor with a longer drive shaft setup from the same motor year range? I have found an old motor like mine through the classifieds that is a short shaft setup.I appologize if my terminology is incorrect. Thanks for the help fellas."

"Back in that era, the only difference between a short shaft and a long shaft lower unit was the driveshaft. A simple matter of switching the driveshaft.

Note: Always a good idea to list exactly what engine you have.... Make, Year, Horsepower. The term of Super Sea Horse really doesn't do it other than to define it as a Johnson."
