"Hello all, Can anyone help with timing my 89 125hp force. My timing linkage plastic pc broke. Got new part and was told I must time it, or I could blow engine. Can anyone tell me how to do this with the boat out of water using muffs and what type of timing light to use.

You don't have

You don't have much choice with an outboard motor. The engine must idle with the throttle plates closed. With the throttle plates closed, adjust the timing so that the engine idles at the proper rpm. Check the timing with any timing light, hooked up to cylinder #1. It should be within a few degrees of TDC. Set the maximum advance statically. You do not have be at the absolute max here. It is better to be a few degrees shy of specs anyway.
