"The tag on my outboard says that it's a 1998 150 XL Offshore Mercury. The serial number is 06740795. I can't locate this model anywhere, hence, I don't know the correct parts to order. Can anyone help me identify this?"

"Here is a tag I photographed under the cover. It's definately from a 1998 which is also the year of the boat. But, I agree with you, there is something wrong with that serial number. The boat was purchased used. Could the engine be stolen and maybe someone has changed the serial number label. Does the engine family WM9XM02.0219 match up with the serial number?

I bought a used 1985 jon boat.

I bought a used 1985 jon boat. Was told the mariner outboard was a 20 HP. Found ID tag removed from rivets. Is there any other way to ID motor.
