"On my boat there is a siphon
"On my boat there is a siphon hose on the exhaust. I understand it is to prevent backfow into the engine under certain conditions but I am wondering if sea water is supposed to be passing thru these hoses when the engine is running? I have recently cleaned out some salt deposits in the siphon assembly and fully expected that while I had it apart and the engine was running I might see some water coming out. Here is a schematic of the part but it isn't exactly the same configuration as I have.
