"I have an Evinrude 1976 model 25602E 25 hp with about 145 psi compression on both cylinders. The top plug looks dry with little oil residue and the bottom plug looks somewhat wetter. What may be the cause for one lean cylinder and one normal cylinder? This motor has only one carburetor so I can't see a different mixture to each cylinder. The motor seems to run okay but I don't want to damage the lean cylinder.

Any help is appreciated,

Trooper"

"With the spark plugs removed, rig up a spark tester whereas you can set a 1/4" gap. The spark should jump that gap with a strong blue lightning like flame.... a real SNAP! Does it?

If not, that would result in a uneven combustion problem which could be mistaken for a lean condition."

"Thanks Joe, I have not checked the spark because it started and seemed to run good. However, the dry looking plug bothered me especially since there is just one carburetor giving oil to both cylinders. I will check as you suggest. Do you think the wetter cylinder may have a weak spark?
