The fast idle control on chrys

The fast idle control on chrysler 100/1983 does not function. Looking at manual it seems to be just a mechanical cam to move the throttle a little. I think the cam may be worn.
Is that correct?
Is working on the throttle control difficult?
I did repairs on an Evenrude throttle but it was a real pain to reassemble.

"MY info request re: "Fast idle control" is moot.
I found that this button, on the throttle housing,
only disables the shifter when pulled out so the throttle can be advanced (ie=fast idle) w/o spinning the prop.
A nice idea that works fine now that I understand how it works!"
