"Hey, I have a Chrysler 140 HP engine, Older one, Not sure what year its off a 1984 procraft. Is there a way to tell the year of the motor?

My real question is, I havent taken the boat out yet, Its been a few months... I put the Motor on the ear muffs at the house and it seems to not be taking water up to the engine, Is there anyway I can tell if the water pump is working? After 20-30 sec of idling it seems to be pretty hot when I touch the block so I am scared to run it till I know for sure. Are the ear muffs suitable for telling if the water pump is working? I dont want to run the engine again till I know. Any info would be great."

I have a 140 hp Chrysler Model 1408H3E.All volatge checks OK I have very low intermittent spark on 2 cylinders?? Is this a distributor problem?
