"I have a 3.0 mercruiser and the wire gets very hot at the nut on the alternator, that wire goes to the starter. it has burnt off about 2 inchs away from the alternator about 4 times. I have checked the voltage on the battery at 1,500 rpm and it reads steady 14.23 volts. also on the post at the alternator there is a wire terminal that is not connected or was cut, it is approx a 14 awg. does anyone know what that wire is supposed to hook to or if any capacitors or diodes were hooked there...."
