Exhaust coming from prop

i just bought a 1994 spectrum

i just bought a 1994 spectrum dominator with a merc. 55hp. I had it hooked up to a water hose with the adapter letting it run and the exhaust was coming out around the prop. is this right? Also it was pumping water but it did not seem like alot. i believe it says it is a mercury sea horse. any help would be appreciiated.

"Yes, that is where the exhaust comes out. On bigger motors you need plenty of water pressure while running because the exhaust gets hot and will spin hubs if you have the motor to high up on the jack plate. Learned the hard way on a 225 optimax."

"Hi, im new but i hope this helps, many outboards have the exhaust exit in the center of the propeller. Its called Thru-Hub exhaust. As for water flow if the 'Indicator' stream is solid its probably enough water."
