"My husband is looking at a 2000 Princecraft with a 2000 Evinrude 90hp Ficht (is that right?).

The owner supposedly only had about 10 or 15 hours on it (he decided he wants a larger deck boat). One guy is telling us the motor is great; another is telling us there can be big problems with the powerhead. Sounds like the engine basically blows up.

The claim was that this motor nearly put OMC out of business.

We really like the boat but need more information on the motor. Can anybody help? The sooner the better, while the lakes are still frozen in our neck of the woods, this is too good of a deal to pass up."

There is lots of Ficht information on this board.


All motors have their share of troubles.Ficht had a few more.

You'll want to have an experienced Ficht mechanic where you plan to service your motor. They're nothing like regular carbed motors.

"I have no personal experience, but from several accounts I've read, the FICHT 90HP and 115HP motors were pretty reliable. It was the early 150 & 175 V6 motors that had the majority of the powerhead problems."
